ABU DHABI: World Polio Day, according to Dr. Yousef Mohammed Al Serkal, Director-General of the Emirates Health Services (EHS), is an important opportunity to showcase the UAE’s pioneering efforts to battle the illness at the local and regional levels.
He noted that the UAE has been supporting and assisting nations in their efforts to eliminate the illness since 1994, in collaboration with the World Health Organization, UNICEF, and the Emirates Red Crescent. Al Serkal pointed out that the UAE declared itself polio-free in 2007, which would not have been achieved without the leadership’s unwavering support and the supply of the requisite competencies and resources. He emphasized the EHS’s desire to further up its efforts in order to keep the UAE in the lead in the fight against polio. He emphasized the EHS’ commitment to adopting WHO recommendations and increasing the strategic indicator of children’s immunization coverage rate.
World Polio Day (October 24) is a chance to highlight worldwide efforts toward a polio-free world and to celebrate those who have worked tirelessly to eradicate polio from every corner of the planet.
