DUBAI: An international space advocacy organization declared on Wednesday that the UAE has successfully established itself as a space participant.
Pascale Ehrenfreund, President of the International Astronautical Federation (IAF), told the Emirates News Agency (WAM) that the space sector has grown increasingly vibrant as more new countries and commercial entities enter it. The IAF, in collaboration with the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC), is hosting the 72nd International Astronautical Congress (IAC), the world’s largest global space event, at the Dubai World Trade Centre, with over 4,000 industry leaders and specialists in attendance.
“We are living in a very exciting time of space activities. New commercial actors are entering the market, which is obviously a new component, but it is a multistakeholder approach,” Ehrenfreund said when asked about the commercial ventures that entered the space tourism industry.
In the private sector, there are now three prominent players: Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin, Richard Branson’s Virgin Galactic, and Elon Musk’s SpaceX. As many new nations are willing to engage the race, Ehrenfreund is optimistic that the business will “steadily grow.” That is why the next conference, the Global Conference on Space for Emerging Countries (GLEC 2022), will be dedicated to emerging countries, she said, referring to the Global Conference on Space for Emerging Countries (GLEC 2022), which will be held in Quito, Ecuador, in May 2022.
