SHARJAH: HE Nicola Lener, the Ambassador of Italy to the UAE, was received by HE Ahmed Bin Rakkad Al Ameri, Chairman of the Sharjah Book Authority (SBA) at the ongoing Sharjah International Book Fair (2020), on Thursday, in Expo Centre Sharjah.
The two officials met at the Italian Embassy Pavillion to explore new opportunities emerging in the cultural fields to strengthen cooperation and joint action between Italy and Sharjah. They discussed future mechanisms to organize joint initiatives between SBA and their counterpart institutions in Italy.
Italy’s participation in the 39th edition of SIBF was briefed to Al Ameri by Lener. Al Ameri accompanied the ambassador on a tour of the exhibition halls, shared the experiences of publishing houses in their respective local book industries, and reviewed the challenges the world faces due to COVID-19. They also discussed the opportunities for innovation and development, and alternative mechanisms for organizing big industry events to ensure the progress and continuity of global publishing businesses.
The book fair under the theme, ‘The World Reads from Sharjah’, comes to a close on November 14.
