Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has unveiled its cutting-edge Design Lab, the first of its kind within a government entity to integrate real-time Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) into the creation of designs for buildings, facilities, and spaces.
Located in the Buildings and Facilities Department, the Design Lab is poised to transform project design by significantly reducing processing time from five days to just eight hours—a remarkable 93% improvement. This AI-powered innovation aims to deliver optimal spatial configurations and enhance user and beneficiary experiences for transportation facility projects and other structures.
Revolutionizing Design Processes
Shaikha Al Shaikh, Director of Buildings and Facilities at RTA’s Corporate Administrative Support Services Sector, highlighted the lab’s vision. “The Design Lab will provide conceptual design proposals tailored to service providers such as contractors and consultants. It also opens its doors to university students and companies for workshops and competitions, fostering a culture of innovation,” she stated.
The lab is equipped with state-of-the-art AI-driven technologies, offering interactive tools to create visual concepts for projects. Users can input data to generate diverse design proposals for both exterior and interior spaces in various architectural styles. The facility also boasts an extensive library of design materials, interactive screens, and workspaces for architects, interior designers, and draftsmen.
Advancing Digital Transformation
In line with RTA’s digital transformation goals, the lab employs generative AI to transform photographic images into conceptual visuals. The custom-built tool not only supports real-time design but also ensures alignment with global best practices and modern innovation standards.
Al Shaikh emphasized the lab’s commitment to staying at the forefront of technological advancements. “The next phase will focus on continuously updating the AI tool to reflect the latest trends and best practices in architectural and interior design.”
The launch of the Design Lab underlines RTA’s dedication to enhancing service delivery through innovation, setting a benchmark for government entities worldwide.
