The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), in collaboration with the Dubai Police General Headquarters, has launched field awareness campaigns to educate heavy vehicle drivers about the truck movement ban policy and emphasize traffic safety for heavy vehicles.
The initiative comes after the implementation of a truck movement ban on January 1, covering a section of Emirates Road from Al Awir to Sharjah during evening peak hours, between 5:30 PM and 8:00 PM.
Raising Awareness Among Heavy Vehicle Drivers
The campaign aims to inform truck drivers about the specific timings and locations of the restrictions, particularly on Emirates Road for vehicles traveling from Dubai to Sharjah. Truck drivers were engaged at designated rest stops along Emirates Road and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, where they received informational brochures via QR codes in Arabic, English, and Urdu. These brochures provided detailed ban timings and maps of restricted areas to enhance compliance.
Focus on Heavy Vehicle Safety
The campaign also addressed road safety, engaging 1,000 truck drivers in discussions about adhering to safety and security standards while operating their vehicles. Drivers were reminded of the importance of complying with traffic laws to ensure safer roads for all users.
Broader Truck Movement Restrictions
The RTA has implemented truck movement restrictions on various roads across Dubai, tailoring the policies to the unique conditions of each area. Key restrictions include:
• Major Streets: Truck movement is permanently prohibited on Al Ittihad Street, Al Meydan Street, and all crossings.
• Residential Areas: Roads near Sharjah, such as Al Mizhar, Al Muhaisnah, and Oud Al Muteena, are restricted for 16 hours daily, from 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM.
• Urban Areas: Moderately congested roads, including Airport Street, Oman Street, and Damascus Street, face restrictions during peak hours: 6:30 AM to 8:30 AM, 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM, and 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM.
Data-Driven Adjustments
The RTA has emphasized that adjustments to truck movement restrictions are based on comprehensive studies of traffic density, incident statistics, and urban development. The goal is to distribute traffic to alternative routes and ensure smoother mobility across Dubai.
These initiatives reflect RTA’s ongoing commitment to improving traffic safety, promoting compliance with regulations, and ensuring a safer road environment for all users.
