SHARJAH: To strengthen its commitment to promote books and literacy, the Sharjah Book Authority (SBA) is hosting the National Libraries Summit on November 8th and 9th,2021, at its Sharjah headquarters. The two-day conference, themed “Visibility, Engagement, Impact, and Collaboration,” will bring together 50 national library directors and senior staff from 20 countries across Europe, North America, Africa, and the Middle East.
All participants will be able to attend the summit for free, providing a unique chance to exchange ideas and skills. It will allow a group of people to look at the problems that national libraries are facing. Participants at the summit will examine the current condition of national library curation, debate the complex issues that librarians confront in building and interpreting collections, and consider practical solutions. The conference will also serve as a forum for national library experts to discuss best practices and develop new curatorial methods. It will increase prospects for international collaboration through increased networking opportunities.
On Day 1, two-panel discussions will kick off the summit. The first session, “Visibility through Communications,” aims to reintroduce users to national libraries following the COVID-19 epidemic. “Engaging Digital Users” is the topic of the second presentation. “Impact on Society and National Strategies” and “Cooperation and Partnerships among National Libraries” are two of the sessions on Day 2’s agenda.
On both days of the summit, there will be four networking breakout sessions for attendees to explore collaborations and partnerships. The American Library Association is a co-organizer of the National Libraries Summit. The event is co-sponsored by the National Libraries Section of the International Federation of Library Associations (IFLA) and the Arab Federation of Libraries and Information (AFLI).
