New Delhi: The indigenously built High-speed Expendable Aerial Target (HEAT), ABHYAS, was successfully flight-tested on Friday from the Integrated Test Range (ITR), Chandipur, off the coast of the Bay of Bengal in Odisha, according to DRDO officials. Rajnath Singh, the Defence Minister, commended the DRDO on the successful flight test of Abhyas.
The present test was conducted as part of a series of developmental flying tests. Indian businesses have already expressed interest in producing the vehicle and have been invited to bid. They claim that if constructed, this indigenous target aircraft will suit the needs of the Indian Armed Forces for High-speed Expendable Aerial Targets (HEAT).
The Aeronautical Development Establishment (ADE) in Bengaluru, India, designed and developed ABHYAS.
The vehicle is set up to fly completely independently. A laptop-based Ground Control Station is used to check out an air vehicle (GCS). Dr. G Satheesh Reddy, Secretary, Department of Defence R&D and Chairman, DRDO, commended the teams involved in the successful flight test of ‘ABHYAS,’ calling it a force multiplier due to its precision and efficacy.
