Dubai: The Expo 2020 Dubai team paid a heartfelt tribute to the 200,000 workers from all over the world who helped bring the event to life by dedicating a monument to them at the Expo site.
Every worker’s name is etched into stone structures at the Workers’ Monument, which was built by renowned London-based architect Asif Khan. The cylindrical columns are inspired by the Moon’s metamorphosis during eclipse, as well as the traditional science of mapping and the excellent engineering observed in Islamic astrolabes.
The colonnade, which is made up of columns cut from a single monolithic block, runs the length of Expo’s Jubilee Park’s main walkway. It exemplifies the UAE’s collaborative attitude and serves as the foundation for Expo 2020’s vision and ethos.
The monument was unveiled by Reem Al Hashimy, UAE Minister of State for International Cooperation and Director-General of Expo 2020 Dubai.
Since the Expo site was originally broken ground in 2015, the 200,000-plus workforce from all over the world has completed over 240 million working hours. They contributed to the transformation of what was once a large portion of desert into the stunning world-class destination it is today.
