Dubai: A festival awaits admirers of Korean art, music, and technology inside the country’s pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai.
The top K-Pop bands and technological advances, according to Moon Byung-Jun, Consul-General of the Republic of Korea.
“We are bringing popular K-Pop stars to Dubai and there will be weekly performances. Some of the bands, like Stray Kids, have millions of followers in the region, and they will perform at the Expo,” said the consul-general.
Stray Kids, a K-Pop band with 34 million social media followers, has been named as the Korean pavilion’s ambassadors.
Thousands of Koreans are keen to visit Dubai during the Expo, according to the ambassador, who added that there would be daily events and performances where tourists can soak up Korean art and music.
“Dubai is renowned for its world’s first, biggest and tallest attractions and achievements. And we have many things in common. Both Korea and Dubai don’t have many natural resources. But in the last two decades, our countries have witnessed huge development. Both of us have overcome many difficulties using our creativity, innovation and technological prowess,” said Moon.
In light of Korea’s strategic relationship with the UAE, he noted that participation in the Expo is critical. Korea and the UAE have significant bilateral ties, particularly as a result of their collaboration in the construction of the Barakah nuclear power station. These ties will be strengthened as a result of the Expo.
According to the envoy, the Korean pavilion is one-of-a-kind. He described it as “very inventive” and “futuristic.” Korea’s pavilion is the fifth-largest at Expo and is located in the Mobility District. The pavilion will showcase Korea’s technological capabilities to the rest of the world, in keeping with their motto of “Smart Korea, Moving the World to You.”
Moon Hoon, a well-known Korean architect, created a dynamic façade for the pavilion that moves and intertwines real and virtual spaces.
On the pavilion’s façade, Hoon has employed 1,590 rotating digital and analogue cubes to produce continuously changing images. The five-story structure, according to the consul-general, interprets the concept of “a group dancing with joy” and tries to express Korean energy over a floor space of more than 5,200 square meters.
Visitors will be able to enjoy panoramic views of the Expo 2020 site from the open interior, which will have a spiral-shaped display space.
The Asian country, which is known for its technological prowess, will also organize events to capitalize on the growing global appeal of its film, television, and music.
Korea will also use cutting-edge technology such as artificial intelligence, virtual reality, and the Internet of Things to promote its standing as a global leader in the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
People will be given a mobile phone as they enter the pavilion, and they will be able to build their own avatars and digitally visit Korea’s hi-tech cities, cultural and tourist destinations. According to the ambassador, the pavilion would also showcase Korea’s most cutting-edge technology that can help bring the globe closer together.
