Dubai: RewirEd, the world’s first global platform dedicated to reimagining the future of education, will hold its flagship global education conference, RewirEd Summit, from December 12th to 14th, 2021, as part of Expo 2020 Dubai’s Knowledge and Learning Week.
The summit, organized by Dubai Cares in collaboration with Expo 2020 Dubai and in close collaboration with the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MoFAIC), aims to be a catalyst in redefining education to ensure a prosperous, sustainable, innovative, and accessible future for all.
The RewirEd Summit, which is part of the larger RewirEd platform and is expected to draw over 2,000 people, intends to collaboratively explore novel approaches to education difficulties and establish a shared vision and concrete action plan to shape the future of education.
According to Dr. Tariq Al Gurg, CEO of Dubai Cares and Commissioner General of the Dubai Cares Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai, the Rewired Summit in Dubai will be the largest in-person global education gathering, offering all key stakeholders from around the world a strategic platform to rally for education.
He noted that Expo 2020 Dubai also offers a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to have a worldwide dialogue about the future of education, particularly in light of the school disruption for the last 15 months as a result of the epidemic. He added that the summit will not only address present global education concerns, but will also consider completely new approaches to rewiring education so that children and youth around the world may receive a future-ready education.
Dr. Al Gurg went on to say that Dubai’s role as a cultural bridge and a facilitator of global discourse and knowledge exchange is reflected in the Summit. He called on to work together to redefine education by 2030 as a global community.
Rt. Hon Gordon Brown, UN Special Envoy for Global Education and former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, stated that we have to be the first generation in history where every single child attends school. He added that it is time to realize not just some, but all of the potential of all children. He went on to say that the RewirEd Summit is going to make a huge difference and is a turning point for education.
Henrietta H. Fore, Executive Director at UNICEF, said that the global COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated the global learning crisis and brought attention to the digital divide and skills gap that are preventing millions of young people from receiving the education, employment, and chances they require. To assist them and their economies recover, we need to reinvent education, bridge these gaps, and put digital solutions and skills in the hands of every child and young person.
She noted that at the RewirEd Summit, UNICEF’s Generation Unlimited and Dubai Cares will join forces to rewire education and enable young people gain access to the skills and opportunities they require.
Events like the RewirEd Summit, according to Saadia Zahidi, Managing Director and Head of WEC’s Centre for the New Economy and Society, are critical because they provide a vital space for innovative new approaches to education to emerge and for leaders to converge on shared solutions that leave no one behind.
Over the course of the Summit, speakers will discuss three key specific themes including ‘Youth, Skills and the Future of Work: What future skills do our youth need, and what opportunities do we have today to ensure equity in skills development in a post-COVID-19 world?’; ‘Innovation in Education: How can we develop innovative and scalable solutions to ensure that children and young people globally can build strong foundations for lifelong learning and well-being?’; and ‘Educa…
