Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has completed the construction of 40 air-conditioned rest areas for delivery riders across key locations in the emirate. The initiative aims to enhance road safety, improve working conditions, and provide essential comfort for riders waiting for new orders.
Enhancing Road Safety & Comfort
His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors at RTA, emphasized the project’s role in promoting road safety and supporting the growing delivery sector.
“The implementation of these rest areas underscores RTA’s commitment to providing a safe and comfortable environment for delivery riders, particularly amid the rapid growth of the sector in recent years,” Al Tayer said.
By mid-2024, Dubai had 2,535 delivery companies operating a total of 46,600 motorcycles. The new facilities support Dubai’s Traffic Safety Strategy, which aims for “Zero Fatalities,” reinforcing the emirate’s position as a global leader in road safety.
The rest areas are designed to minimize sun exposure while ensuring effective insulation and visibility. Each facility accommodates up to 10 riders, depending on location, and features adjacent parking spaces for motorcycles.
Strategic Locations
RTA selected rest area locations based on demand analysis, coordination with delivery companies, and operational data. The 40 sites include key areas such as Hessa Street, Barsha Heights, Al Karama, Dubai Marina, Business Bay, International City, Mirdif, and Dubai Motor City.
Delivery Sector Excellence Award
To further elevate industry standards, RTA launched the Delivery Service Excellence Award in 2022, recognizing outstanding companies, riders, and partners.
The award includes three categories:
• Best Company – Based on safety compliance, service quality, and technological advancements.
• Best Rider – Recognizing professionalism, adherence to traffic laws, and service excellence.
• Best Partner – A newly introduced category.
The number of winners in the Outstanding Rider category has been increased to 200 this year due to high demand.
Commitment to a Safer & Sustainable Future
RTA continues to implement initiatives ensuring high-quality service, road safety, and improved working conditions for delivery riders. These efforts align with Dubai’s vision of sustainable urban mobility and enhanced traffic safety standards.
