Dubai, UAE – 17 February 2025: Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has unveiled the fourth-generation traditional abras, marking a significant step in modernizing the city’s marine transport network. The new abras aim to enhance the commuting experience, integrate seamlessly with Dubai’s public transport system, and support the growth of marine tourism.
Ahmed Hashim Bahrozyan, CEO of RTA’s Public Transport Agency, emphasized the importance of the initiative, stating:
“This step reflects RTA’s commitment to enhancing service quality and improving the overall experience for marine transport users in line with our strategic goals. The newly redesigned abras now accommodate up to 24 passengers, up from 20, and fully comply with the Dubai Universal Design Code, ensuring safety, accessibility, and comfort for all.”
Key upgrades include improved seating, enhanced flooring, and a more efficient layout with dedicated spaces for people of determination. The new abras also incorporate cutting-edge technology, such as real-time passenger information screens, smart transport systems, and digital destination boards—introduced for the first time—to improve navigation and accessibility.
In addition to enhanced design and technology, the fourth-generation abras comply with the highest standards of security, safety, and environmental sustainability. RTA has obtained certifications confirming adherence to the Gulf Standard Specifications for maritime safety regulations.With these advancements, RTA continues to reinforce Dubai’s position as a global leader in smart and sustainable transport solutions, ensuring a seamless and efficient marine mobility experience for residents and visitors alike.
