Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has unveiled the RailBus, a revolutionary first and last-mile solution, at the World Governments Summit (WGS) 2025. Designed to improve public transport accessibility, the RailBus will connect densely populated areas such as Karama, Al Barsha, and Deira to the Dubai Metro and Tram networks.
Bridging the Gap in Public Transport
Malek Ramadan Mishmish, Director of Rail Planning and Projects Development at RTA, highlighted that the RailBus will serve communities that currently lack direct access to the Metro. “The RailBus network will operate within specific areas, ensuring residents can travel conveniently from their neighborhoods to the nearest Metro station,” he explained.
Dedicated Rail Network for Communities
The RailBus will have a separate rail system within each community, ensuring efficient and seamless connectivity. The vehicles are designed to be spacious, allowing both seated and standing passengers to travel comfortably.
Eco-Friendly and Noise-Free Transit
A key advantage of the RailBus is its minimal noise levels, making it an ideal solution for residential areas. “This feature will significantly reduce noise pollution, creating a quieter, more sustainable transport environment,” Mishmish added.
Future Roadmap
The RTA is currently conducting technical and feasibility studies, which are expected to be completed within the next two to three years. This initiative aligns with Dubai’s commitment to sustainable urban mobility and improving public transport accessibility across the emirate.
The RailBus project represents a significant step toward enhancing Dubai’s integrated transport system, offering residents a smart, efficient, and eco-friendly transit option.
